What to do with Sentimental Items?

What to do with sentimental items because them in a box is not doing them justice?

I love having creative items all over my house that hold meaning for me!  I am not big on just having something in my home just because.  There is always meaning.

One thing that is super trendy right now, but I think will last depending on your style, are gallery walls.  I love that these walls aren't just full of recent pictures, but also words or sentimental items or pictures from the past.

Here are some from Pinterest:

Love the artwork.  This would be an awesome gallery wall in a playroom or in a child's room.

I love how eclectic and colorful this gallery wall is...full of pictures from the past, art and items that mean something to the homeowner.

Here are two gallery walls in my home:

I also love putting special items on shelves throughout my home.  Sometimes you have to get creative with placement on shelves so it achieves the look you are going for and doesn't look like something just thrown on the shelf.

I don't think the problem with putting sentimental items out has to do with creativity, I think the hesitation is committing to putting holes in a wall or actually initiating the project.  I have worked with many friends in the past that had blank walls and they just needed some encouragement and another eye to get their items on the walls.  I am one who doesn't have a problem hammering...you can ask Zach.  When I have a vision...I put it out there.  I just do it.  If it doesn't work out...I try again until it turns out the way I want it.  You can always fill in a nail hole...just start somewhere.

Also...I think we all have great ideas but it might take use going to Hobby Lobby to grab that frame or Target to get that cute shelf or whatever the task might be.  Do that task....finish the project.  Frame that adorable piece of artwork that has been laying on your counter for weeks.  Pull out that beautiful picture of your grandparents on their wedding day and buy the frame so you can smile at it every time you walk by it on your shelf.  Put together a gallery wall of all the sweet sentimental items from your babies that you just couldn't let go of....they don't have to sit in a box...

The greatest way to decorate your home is with the art that is your LIFE!  Adorn your walls with all the memories and keepsakes and items that tell the story of your days!
